The Sand City Art Committee in conjunction with Celadon Arts is seeking artists to participate in a juried art exhibition that will be on view August 26- September 25, 2016.
Opening and artist reception for the show will be in conjunction with Sand City’s famous West End Celebration on the weekend of August 26- 28. Exhibition is being held at The Independent Gallery Space, 600 Ortiz Ave, Sand City.

This year’s juror is Gail Enns.

 Event Dates: August 26-September 25, 2016
Submission Deadline: July 8, 2016
Artist Notification: July 22, 2016.


All submitting artists must 18 years old or over and reside in California.

We are accepting works in three categories:

1          Two Dimensional- Painting, drawing, photography, prints, mixed media.

2          Three Dimensional- sculpture and installations (any medium).

3          Time- based- Performance art, video, film, digital arts and new media.


Gail F. Enns has over thirty years of experience as a curator and gallery owner. She is currently Owner and Director of the Green Chalk Contemporary gallery in Monterey, California. In addition, since 1989 she has served as the Director of Celadon Arts – a 501c3 arts management organization – producing exhibitions in galleries, museums and art spaces in Washington, DC, New York City, Amstelveen, Netherlands, and most recently in Monterey, California.  From 1982 to 2000, she owned Anton Gallery in Washington, DC. Enns moved from Washington, D.C. to the Monterey Peninsula in 2003.

Sand City Art Committee Choice Award – $200

For each category:
First Place – $400
Second Place – $200
Third Place  – $100

Awards will be given at the opening reception on August 26, 2016. Artists do not have to be present to receive awards.

The entry fee is $35. One to five pieces of art may be submitted. Entry fees are non-refundable. Payment is accepted at time of your initial submission.

Submissions must include:

 1.) One image of each work JPEG file format only 1200 pixels on the longest edge, 300 dpi. Files should be no larger than 5 MB on a per file basis. Please label JPEGs as FirstLast_Title_Size (i.e.BettySmith_Painting304_36X36in.).

2.) Video Entries: please provide a web address for streaming video.


Mailed entries must be postmarked by July 8, 2016 and include a full copy of the application as well as payment. All entries must include accompanying JPEG files provided on a CD/DVD or a USB compatible memory device.

We encourage that all work be for sale. The sale price is set by the artist. The Sand City Art Committee in association with Celadon Arts will retain 30% of the artist’s price on all artworks sold .The remaining 70% will be paid to the artist. Works not sold will be returned to the artist at the artist’s expense.

Each artist accepted into show must have a completed consignment form accompany the artwork with NAME, TITLE, DATE, MEDIUM, SIZE AND PRICE.
All work must be gallery ready to hang upon delivery:
This includes proper hardware- cleats, d-rings, wire, etc.. If a painting is not framed, it must be gallery wrapped (its sides must be painted). Works on paper using magnets, grommets, or pins are acceptable.

HAND DELIVERIES will be accepted between August 23 – 24, 2016 9 AM – 4 PM
SHIPPED artwork will be accepted between August 17 – 24, 2016
Shipped artwork must be in a reusable crate or commercial shipping container and be accompanied with a self addressed prepaid shipping label. Unsold artwork will be repacked and returned to the artist at the artist’s expense.

No cash, or IOUs will be accepted to cover shipping costs. If return postage or packing materials are not included, and the artist is unable to receive work in person by September 30th, he/she will be assessed a $10.00/day storage fee.

After September 30, 2016, the balance of storage costs are due and the City of Sand City is in no way responsible for the safe return of your work.

Shipping insurance for full loss is recommended.


  • The Sand City Art Committee reserves the right to remove any artwork at any time during the exhibition.
  • The Sand City Art Committee maintains the right to reject any work that differs from the corresponding entry form or that fails to maintain exhibition standards.
  • The Sand City Art Committee reserves the right to reproduce images of accepted work in support of its programming in perpetuity.
  • You will be notified if your work is accepted or declined via email only.
  • Your work will be insured for the purchase price. If the work is Not For Sale, you must include the value of the work for insurance purposes. Works will be fully insured by the City of Sand City upon arrival and through de-installation until it is shipped back to you. Work without a stated value will be insured for $100.00.
